## This week 4/25 in Reading & Writing

**Reading**:

Students will be working on further study of text features as they are presented in informational texts. ALL ASSIGNMENTS ARE ON THE GRADEBOOK FOR THE ENTIRE QUARTER.

**Homework**:

Monday- Dialectical entries, Role sheets (period 3 & 4)

Thursday- Reading log

**Writing**:

Root words: ject, jud, mal, mater, micro, mis/miso, mono, morph, nym were given to students 4/14, but the graphic organizer of the words are due for completion for 90%, since they will be considered late.

7th grade students will be working together to study the root words as well as work on their nature vs. nurture project in class. Students from 4th period, signed up for a canvas and will receive them on the 28th.

8th grade students will be will be working together to study the root words as well as work on their essays or articles (3-5 paragraphs) for the 4th quarter, first one due May 5th. Students topics are due April 28th.

**Homework**:

Tuesday- Frayer models 2 or 4.

No testing on Wednesday, students will be finishing the work from 3/28 week with the *Spiderman informational article and Titanic informational article* and comprehension questions.

## What’s Happening in Math – Week of 3/28/16

Algebra – Students will wrap up their projects, take post assessment, and then move onto Lesson 6-1 Graphing Systems of Equations.

7th Pre A (2nd Period) – This week students will learn about Scale and Scale Models from Lesson 6-6. No quiz this week.

8th Pre A – Students will learn about writing and solving proportions in Lesson 6-5. Students will take a quiz on Thursday on this lesson.

7th Pre A (4th period) – Students will begin a mini project this week on solving equations.

## This week 3/28 in Reading and Writing

Reading:

The students will be working on comparing and contrasting of a text, audio, and video and reviewing central idea and theme. Students will write an article using the template in Google about the topic of the week: Chicago Fire (8th) Titanic (7th)

**PARCC has been moved and will begin April 4th**.

My grade book will be closing April 1st.

The students were given the following root words on 3/22:

**Greek Roots: hydro, hypo, logy, meter. **

## This week in Reading and Writing 3/14 PI Day

Reading:

The students will be working on the basics, structure, and figurative languages in poetry for the next two weeks starting 3/14. Students will write a number of 4 poems and choose the best one for a poetry slam in the classroom when PARCC is finished. **PARCC will begin March 28th**.

## What’s Happening in Math – Week of 3/14/16

8th Algebra – This week we are working on Graphing Inequalities on a Coordinate Plane (Lesson 5-6). Students will take a quiz on Friday.

7th Pre A (2nd Period) – This week we will work on Solving Proportions – Lesson 6-5. Students will take a quiz on Friday.

8th Pre A – We will work on Converting Rates in lesson 6-3. Students will take a quiz on Friday on lessons 6-1 to 6-3.

7th Pre A (4th Period) – This week we are working on Solving Inequalities – Lesson 5-4. Students will take a quiz on Friday.

## What’s Happening In Math – Week of 3/7/16

Algebra – This week we will spend time doing a Chapter Review on Chapter 4. Students will take the Mid Chapter 4 test on Thursday. Skills they should master are: writing equations with one point and the slope, or two points, writing equations in slope intercept form, point slope form and standard form, writing and graphing equations of lines that are parallel and perpendicular to a given line.

7th Pre A (2nd period) – We are moving onto Lesson 6-4 Proportional and Non Proportional Relationships. Students will take a quiz on Thursday.

8th Pre A II – We are finally done with our Unit on Geometry and are moving onto our unit on Proportionality. We will begin with lesson 6-1 Ratios, and lesson 6-2 Unit Rates.

7th Pre A (4th Period) – We are finally done with our unit on Expressions and Equations. We are beginning a very short unit on Inequalities this month, beginning with Lesson 5-3. Students will take a quiz on Thursday.

## This Week 3/7 in Reading and Writing

Reading:

The connection between point of view (POV) and its development by the author and character motivation will continue this week for in- depth study with the texts. Students will be re-reading passages (Scholarship Jacket/Zebra 7th) and (Treasure of Lemon Brown/ Rules of the Game 8th) and answering close reading questions to determine the POV and the motivation connections with the text. There will be a quiz on POV and character motivation on Friday, 3/11.

Monday- Read nightly 30 min, Dialectical entries due, **Study for POV quiz**.

Thursday- Reading log due

Writing

When students are finished with their assigned work they will be working on vocabulary activities to practice and study the Latin and Greek root words.

## Important Dates in March

March 16, 2016- $165 8th grade fees are due. This is the final date for those are are paying in installments. But the full amount is due this date.

March 17, 2016- Picture retake date for 8th grade photos.

Students will be reading passages and answering close reading questions to determine the POV and the motivation connections with the text. There will be a quiz on POV and character motivation on Friday, 3/4.

Students will also be presenting their editorials (7th) and Speeches (8th) on Thursday 3/3. When students are finished with their assigned work they will be working on Zaner Bloser assignments online.

## 8th Grade Graduation Photo Retakes

Graduation Photo Retakes are scheduled for Thursday, March 17th.

## What’s Happening in Math – Week of 2.29.16

Algebra – Since students learned about Point Slope Form while learning about Slope Intercept Form, we are skipping lesson 4-3 and moving forward. Lesson 4-4 is about writing equations of lines that are parallel and perpendicular to each other. Students will take a quiz on Friday on this lesson.

7th Pre A (2nd Period) – We were unable to learn about lesson 6-3 last week, so that is our focus this week. Students will learn about dimensional analysis and converting units within systems of measurements. Students will take a quiz on Friday on this lesson.

8th Pre A – This week we will learn about Lesson 12-4, the Volume of Cones, Spheres, and Pyramids. Students have their Mid Chapter 12 test on Friday. We will be studying and reviewing the Volume of Prisms, Cylinders, Cones, Spheres, and Pyramids for this test.

7th Pre A (4th period) – On Monday and Tuesday, students will learn about how to write equations in lesson 4-6. We will spend Wednesday reviewing for the Chapter 4 test which will take place over two days (if necessary – on Thursday and Friday).
