8th Grade Graduation Photo Retakes

Graduation Photo Retakes are scheduled for Thursday, March 17th.

What’s Happening in Math – Week of 2.29.16

Algebra – Since students learned about Point Slope Form while learning about Slope Intercept Form, we are skipping lesson 4-3 and moving forward. Lesson 4-4 is about writing equations of lines that are parallel and perpendicular to each other. Students will take a quiz on Friday on this lesson.

7th Pre A (2nd Period) – We were unable to learn about lesson 6-3 last week, so that is our focus this week. Students will learn about dimensional analysis and converting units within systems of measurements. Students will take a quiz on Friday on this lesson.

8th Pre A – This week we will learn about Lesson 12-4, the Volume of Cones, Spheres, and Pyramids. Students have their Mid Chapter 12 test on Friday. We will be studying and reviewing the Volume of Prisms, Cylinders, Cones, Spheres, and Pyramids for this test.

7th Pre A (4th period) –  On Monday and Tuesday, students will learn about how to write equations in lesson 4-6. We will spend Wednesday reviewing for the Chapter 4 test which will take place over two days (if necessary – on Thursday and Friday).

This week in Reading and Writing 2/22

Reading:

The connection between point of view (POV) and its development by the author and character motivation will start and continue for the next 2 weeks for in- depth study with the texts.  Students will be reading passages and answering close reading questions to determine the POV and the motivation connections with the text.  Students in periods 3 & 4 have a literature circle quiz for their books on Wednesday 2/24.

Writing

Greek and Latin roots are the focus for vocabulary instruction with the dictionaries every Tuesday for units 3 and 4.  There is a quiz on Tuesday 2/23 on the greek and latin roots! Students will also be researching and presenting their editorials (7th) and Speeches (8th) on Thursdays. When students are finished with their assigned work they will be working on Zaner Bloser assignments online.

Tuesday- Frayer model vocabulary

What’s Happening in Math – Week of 2/22/16

Algebra – This week we will work on lesson 4-2 Writing Equations in Slope Intercept Form, where students will learn how to write an equation of a line when given two points, or a single point and the slope of a line. Students will have a quiz on Friday.

7th Pre A (2nd Period) – We will work on lessons 6-2 Unit Rates and 6-3 Converting Measurements this week. Students will take a quiz on Friday on lessons 6-1, 6-2, and 6-3.

8th Pre A – This week we will work on lesson 12-3 and 12-4 Volume of Cylinders, Cones, Spheres, and Pyramids. Students will take a quiz on Friday.

7th Pre A (4th Period) – We will continue to work on Two Step Equations (lesson 4-5) and student will take a quiz on this lesson on Wednesday. Then we will begin Writing Equations (lesson 4-6). We are at the end of Chapter 4 and students will take the Chapter 4 Test on Tuesday, March 1st.

 

What’s Happening in Math – Week of 2/15/16

Algebra – Moving on to Chapter 4, students will learn more about slope intercept form and how to graph equations by using the slope and y-intercept. Students will take a quiz on Friday.

7th Pre Algebra (2nd period) – Students will take their Chapter 5 test on Tuesday. We will then begin Chapter 6 and spend the remainder of the week learning about Rates and Ratios.

8th Pre Algebra – Students will learn about the volume of rectangular and triangular prisms in lesson 12-2 and take a quiz on Friday.

7th Pre Algebra (4th period) – Students will take a quiz on Tuesday on solving one-step equations (lesson 4-3 and 4-4). We will then spend the rest of the week learning about two step equations in lesson 4-5.

Important dates to remember for 3rd Qtr.

I hope that your child has given you the 3rd quarter letters that went out Monday, Feb. 8th. If you have visited the grade book lately you will find all of the assignments entered in the grade book for the 3rd Quarter. The dates of the assignments are based on school days and closures. Students in 3rd period will have bi-weekly literature circle quizzes to assure that students are comprehending what they have read as well as ensure that they have actually read the pages their group agreed upon.

Below are the dates that students received about the due dates for assignments, projects, and such.

  • Feb. 10th – Literature quiz #1 – first 20 pages.
  • Feb. 18th- first editorial presentation
  • Feb. 23rd- Latin and Greek quiz #1 aud, bene, aqua, ambi, anthropo, auto, bio, chron,dys
  • Feb. 24th- Literature quiz #2
  • Mar. 3rd- Second editorial presentation
  • Mar. 9th- Literature quiz #3
